We all have different challenges, goals and interests, but I believe that every little or big step we take to live greener, healthier lives counts in a major way. Whether it’s planting a few pots of veggies on your patio, making a homemade cleaner, or whatever the accomplishment may be, they’re among the most valuable ones you’ll ever make because they’re for the health of the environment, yourself, and your family.

Let me tell you, as a busy mama of two, I know that it’s overwhelming to maintain the healthiest lifestyle possible. Sometimes it seems downright impossible when it’s tough to even have time to take a shower on some days, much less make dinner or water the garden. Healthy food and natural products are expensive, and nowadays, who doesn’t have a tight budget to stick to? Please, cut yourself some slack because it’s impossible to control everything and juggle it all at once. Small, gradual changes will make a big impact, and if they’re right for you, you’ll know. I hope that my blog, based on my real-life experiences with family recipes, organic gardening, green living and natural parenting, will help give you guidance and at the very least make you smile!

I started making lifestyle changes almost 7 years ago when I was diagnosed with diverticulitis at a young age. Long story short, if I didn’t change my diet, I would need surgery after surgery just to maintain. I have healed and kept my digestive issues at bay with a mostly organic, whole foods diet ever since. In the process, I also found the trigger of my chronic migraines, which is synthetic additives in food. Words can’t describe how much better I have felt after I have cut out all chemicals from my food.

When I became pregnant for the first time, I became even more diligent about removing toxic chemicals from our home and also choosing natural baby products. I did my best to gradually replace household and personal care products with more natural, safe alternatives. It has been a learning process for me, with finding ways to live more naturally while sticking to a tight budget. Going the DIY route, especially with cleaning products, is one way that has helped me save a tremendous amount of money while cutting out chemicals.

We moved from Michigan to South Carolina a year ago, and in the process we downsized our home but ended up with more garden space! I finally have the space I’ve been dreaming of to have a garden where I can grow much of our own food, and we’re gradually building our little backyard homestead. There are a couple of beehives in our backyard, and we’re dreaming of having chickens someday.

My absolute favorite thing to do is spend time with my little girls in the garden. They love to run free around the garden beds and dig in the dirt. It makes me so proud to watch them learn about how their healthy food is grown!

It also helps me guide them in developing healthy eating habits, since they’re WAY more excited about eating their veggies if they know they helped grow them and make meals with them.
